Marti was born on December 7, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, to William and Margaret (Petek) Koncel. She received her bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University. Marti and Gary Cortright were married on June 21, 1980.

Marti was a case worker for the Department of Human Services for over 20 years. In her retirement, she worked for Stuts Hallmark in Aledo and dedicated her life to the care of animals. She volunteered for Furever Friends in Aledo, and Best Friends Animal Sanctury in Utah. Marti advocated for no-kill animal shelters. She loved all animals, especially her American Eskimo, Chase, and cat, Katie. In her spare time, Marti enjoyed making beaded bracelets, playing cards, and could often be found helping friends in need.

Marti is survived by her husband, Gary; step-daughter, Janice Villasenor, and her son, Diego; brother, Tom Koncel; and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Virginia Wheeler, Deanne (Howard) Kravetz, and Rick Cortright. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Gary would like to especially thank Addie Marlow and Stephanie Ferguson for the exceptional care given to Marti and himself during this journey.
