Wilber “Bill” Brougher Ullom, 90 of Viola, Illinois, passed away Friday, November 7, 2025, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m., Friday, November 14, at Dennison Funeral Home in Viola. The funeral service will directly follow at 4 p.m. where military rites will be performed. Bill was born on November 25, 1934, in Montezuma, Kansas, to Wilber Ullom and Ida Floyd Ullom. He graduated from Montezuma High School in 1954. Bill served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. He married Joan A. Hoelzer on March 6, 1960, in Paw Paw, Illinois. Together they have shared 65 wonderful years of marriage.
Bill spent his entire career as a truck driver, starting with Eagle Foods, then working for McLean, and finishing his career at TNT Holland. After retirement, Bill enjoyed golfing for many years, wintering in Texas, riding his bike around Viola, and drinking coffee with his friends daily. He took pride in maintaining his yard. To the point where, he was very particular on the direction it was mowed and who could walk on it. Bill was a member of the Teamsters Union, the Matherville Eagles, the former Viola Lions Club, and the City Limits Morning Coffee Club.
Bill truly had a special place in his heart for his grandkids and great grandkids. He shared an especially close bond with his great granddaughter, Lilly. He got an instant sparkle in his eye and smile on his face when the kids were near.
Those left to cherish Bill’s memory include his devoted wife, Joan; two children, Tracy Byrne and Tim Ullom, both of Viola; grandchildren, Brianna (Carsten) Adams of Matherville, Illinois, Danica (Brennan) Marti of Olive Branch, Mississippi, and Leilani (Joey) Shinar of Saginaw, Texas; great grandchildren, Parker, Lilly, Everhett, Rowan, Jamison, and Finn; sister, Elsbeth “Liz” Lewallen of Montezuma, Kansas; nieces, Jennifer and Stacy; and nephew, Jeff.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilber and Ida Ullom; son, Troy Ullom; and sister, Eunice Rae.
