UPDATE: New Windsor Man Charged With Attempted Murder

A New Windsor man is charged with attempted first-degree murder after he and a woman were found with multiple lacerations by Mercer County sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday.

44-year-old Michael Licht was arrested on Wednesday morning when the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call at a residence in New Windsor. According to a press release, deputies found Licht covered in blood with multiple lacerations on their way to the scene. Then, upon arriving at the scene, they located a woman with a laceration. Both were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Galesburg.

Licht was arrested and charged with a Class X felony of attempted first-degree murder, a Class 3 felony of aggravated battery/great bodily harm and a Class A misdemeanor of battery.

The Sheriff’s Department says Licht remains in custody while he receives medical care.

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by New Windsor Police, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, Tri-County Ambulance, New Windsor Fire and GHAS Ambulance.
