The New Boston Volunteer Ambulance Service hopes it won’t be closed for good.
It was announced on Monday that the New Boston Volunteer Ambulance Service would be ending its operations next week due to a lack of staff. Starting July 15, emergency ambulance services in the New Boston area will be provided by Elite Ambulance Service, which is dispatched out of Aledo.
The New Boston-Eliza Fire Protection District is working to arrange volunteer EMT training this fall to try to continue providing emergency ambulance services. District Chief Michael DeFrieze says if enough people can get EMT certified, they could restart the New Boston Volunteer Ambulance Service.
The New Boston Volunteer Ambulance Service has provided emergency services for 50 years.
