Happy Abe Lincoln Day in New Boston. Today (Sept. 30) in 1834, Lincoln finished surveying and platting the Mississippi River town. Christian McWhirter is a Lincoln Historian with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield.
Lincoln was also in Mercer County at the onset of the Black Hawk War in 1832, serving as a company captain of the Illinois Militia.
