A vote to rehire Dan Diamond as Orion wrestling coach fails on a 5-2 vote. The Orion Board of Education met in closed session for over an hour Wednesday night before making their decision. Among those speaking in support of Diamond at the meeting was former Aledo wrestling coach Bill Breeden. A letter from former Charger Logan Lee was also read supporting Diamond.
Diamond was dismissed as wrestling coach last month in response to a situation stemming from the individual state wrestling tournament last season. More than 2,000 people signed an on-line petition asking the board to reinstate Diamond. He continues to teach in the district.
