Some Mercer County residents will be seeing an adjustment to the amount they owe in property tax. Mercer County Clerk Brian Gerber says residents in the Carl Sandburg College District were charged a higher tax rate than what was expected. Many of those Mercer County Residents live near Alexis. Gerber says a mistake was also found for residents of Eliza. That should also result in a lower amount owed. Gerber stresses that it is still important to pay the first installment of property taxes by the due date to avoid late fees.
Credits will be issued to the affected residents before the second installment is due.
