Sherrard Bus Driver DUI Case Moved To October

A bench trial has been continued to later this year in the case of a former Sherrard school bus driver charged in a DUI accident earlier this year. The state asked for the continuance Monday in Mercer County Circuit Court. The driver–34 year old Dustin Leath of New Windsor–is accused of being under the influence of drugs and crashing into a tree along Illinois Route 17 last March. One student was on the bus and suffered non-life threatening injuries. The bench trial is set to begin on October 2nd. Sherrard superintendent Alan Boucher tells WRMJ that Leath was a long-term sub for Sherrard and no longer drives for the district.
