A pair of local high school softball coaches were named 2024 Illinois Softball Coaches of the Year over the weekend.
The ICA awarded Ridgewood’s Renae Leander and Rockridge’s Scott Durbin the honor.
Leander is the Class 1A coach of the year in Sectional 4 after leading the Spartans to the first state championship in program history. Ridgewood beat Illini Bluffs 3-1 in the state title game in June to finish the season 31-5-1.
Durbin is the Class 2A coach of the year in Sectional 2. He led the Rockets to the state finals for the sixth straight season in his first year as the head coach at Rockridge. The Rockets finished third and went 32-4-1.
