Rockridge (28-3-1) made two early runs be the difference, defeating Brimfield-Elmwood (20-5), 2-0, in the IHSA Class 2A Rockridge Regional championship game Friday.
The Rockets scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning on three doubles. Charley Perkins led off with a double, then Kendra Lewis and Morgan Hofer each drove in a run in the frame.
Lewis (17-3) earned the win in the pitchers circle for Rockridge. She threw seven shutout innings on three hits. She struck out four batters in the win. Lewis is now 22-0 for her career in the postseason.
The win clinched the ninth straight regional championship for Rockridge. The Rockets have won 24 straight playoff games.
Rockridge advances to the 2A Peoria Notre Dame Sectional, where the Rockets will play Illinois Valley Central (19-14) Tuesday at the Louisville Slugger Complex. IVC beat Canton, 7-5, Friday.
