Rockridge Girls, Riverdale Boys Win Golf Sectionals

The Rockridge girls golf team and Riverdale boys golf team won sectional championships Monday to advance to the IHSA State Finals next week.

The Rockets won the 1A El Paso-Gridley Sectional with a team score of 385, which was tied with Tri-Valley. The Rockets won the fifth score tiebreaker to claim the sectional title. Tri-Valley also advanced to state, as did third-place United with its score of 387.

Illini Bluffs (398) took fourth, followed by Ridgewood (406), Seneca (412), Canton (416), El Paso-Gridley (440), Coal City (441), Hoopeston Area (465), and Watseka (470).

Ridgewood’s Gracie Russell finished first individually to advance to state by shooting a 78.

Anna Carroll and Neva Graves each scored 93 to lead the Rockets.

Mercer County’s Elsie Cook carded a 94 to finish 1oth and advance to state as an individual.

Riverdale won the 1A Rockford Lutheran Sectional by shooting 299 as a team. The Rams finished ahead of second-place Rockford Lutheran (312) and third-place Fulton (315), which moved on to state.

Hall (330) placed fourth, followed by Rockford Christian (331), River Ridge (331), Brimfield (347), Rockridge (348), Peoria Christian (349), Roanoke-Benson (358), Erie-Prophetstown (371), and Mercer County (373).

Rockford Lutheran’s Jake Guse shot a one-under 70 to win the sectional individually.

Riverdale had three of the top five finishers. Aidan Dorathy and Mason Smyser both scored 73 to tie for third and Braden Janicki finished fifth with a 75.

Sherrard’s Jacob Fratzke advanced to state by shooting 77 to tie for 11th place.
