For the fourth time in five years, the Rockridge Rockets have advanced to the Class 2A softball state finals. The Rockets rolled over Tri-City 12-0 at the East Peoria Super-Sectional Monday. Rockridge took a 1-0 lead after one inning and then took off with a six run second. Lexi Hines two-run double and a misplay on Olivia Drish’s drive cleared the bases gave the Rockets some breathing room. Hines added a two-run homer in the seventh. Kendra Lewis was dominate in the circle, giving up five hits, striking out eight. With the win, Rockridge improved to 27-0 and advanced to the state finals in Peoria on Wednesday where they will meet Massac County out of southern Illinois, a 3-1 winner over Freeburg. Game time is 12:30. If the Rockets win they play for the state championship at 5. If they lose they play for third at 4. WRMJ will broadcast both Rockridge games.
In action involving other local teams, Joliet Catholic beat Riverdale 1-0 in 2A softball while Orangeville topped Rowva-Williamsfield 11-4 in 1A.
In Class 1A Super-Sectional baseball, Mt. Pulaski ended Annawan-Wethersfield’s season 11-1.
