Rock Island County May Try For Public Safety Sales Tax Again

If Rock Island County leaders make another push for a public safety sales tax, expect to hear a lot about the broken jail air conditioner. County Administrator Dave Ross says the countywide sales tax, which voters soundly defeated last fall, would have brought in more than enough to fix the broken air conditioner at the jail. Sheriff Gerry Bustos yesterday said he expects it will cost $200,000 to fix the broken air conditioner, but points out he doesn’t have the money in his budget.
