Riverdale pulled away from Sherrard in the second half to win its third straight girls’ basketball regional championship, 39-23, in Port Byron on Thursday.
With the game tied 5-5 in the final seconds of the first quarter, Amarah Coleman banked in a three-pointer as time expired, giving the Rams an 8-5 lead. Riverdale led for the rest of the night.
The Rams (28-3) held a 13-10 lead after a low-scoring first half, but outscored the Tigers 26-13 in the second half.
Cayleigh Hungate scored a game-high 15 points for Riverdale in the victory, while Coleman added 11 points. With the win, Riverdale tied the single-season wins record in program history with 28.
The Rams advance to the 2A Mendota Sectional, where they will play Winnebago (26-6) in the semifinals on Tuesday.
Adalynn Elsbury and Teagan Nelson each scored nine points for the Tigers (19-10).
