The National Weather Service has released an overview of last week’s derecho that slammed through much of the Midwest, including the WRMJ listening area. Meteorologist Timothy Gunkel spoke with WRMJ Monday morning.
One storm related fatality has been reported so far. The Linn County Sheriff’s Department in Iowa says a bicyclist died after being struck by a falling tree. There were also numerous injuries reported, especially in the Cedar Rapids area. The system also resulted in massive power outages throughout Iowa and Illinois.
