Mercer County (9-15) was unable to hold a two-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Monmouth-Roseville (13-13) scored three runs in the frame to beat the Golden Eagles, 6-5, in the quarterfinals of the IHSA Baseball Class 2A Princeton Regional.
Six of the seven Titans batters reached base in the seventh. Zach Almaguer drew a nine-pitch bases loaded walk to tie the game. Then, Ayden Holcomb delivered a pinch-hit walk-off single.
Landyn Angelo (3-1) was the winning pitcher for Monmouth-Roseville. He threw two scoreless innings in relief.
Carson Boelens (3-3) took the loss for the Golden Eagles. He allowed three runs on five hits in 0.2 innings pitched out of the bullpen. Tannen Whitehall went 3-4 with an RBI in the loss.
The Titans advance to play Sherrard (22-3) in Princeton Wednesday.
