With extreme heat continuing to hit the WRMJ listening area, MercyOne Genesis Aledo is reminding local people about the dangers of heat-related illnesses.
Heat exhaustion often occurs while working outside. Symptoms include heavy breathing, feeling dehydrated, and nausea. MercyOne Genesis Aledo Emergency Department Nurse Manager Linda Sarabasa says it’s important to act quickly.
Sarabasa says if you’re experiencing heat exhaustion symptoms, but then stop sweating, that’s a sign of heat stroke, which is a medical emergency.
She says being hydrated before going outside and wearing loose, light clothing helps avoid heat-related illnesses.
Temperatures are expected in the 90s with heat index values reaching triple digits on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday in the WRMJ listening area.
