The spirit of hope and community was on full display Monday as WRMJ and Farm Country 102.3 hosted the 2025 Relay for Life of Mercer County Radiothon — and when the final numbers were tallied, the event exceeded all expectations.
The Radiothon, which ran from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., set an ambitious goal of raising $12,000 to benefit the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer. Thanks to overwhelming support from local businesses, individuals, and organizations, the final total reached $12,872.
Throughout the day, listeners heard inspiring stories from cancer survivors, caregivers, and advocates. Guests included those currently battling cancer, those who have survived the fight, and family members honoring loved ones. Jenna Maxson from Hope Lodge in Iowa City also joined the broadcast, sharing the mission of providing free lodging to cancer patients and caregivers during treatment.
Live music performances from Jason Parchert and Ryan Koresko brought an uplifting soundtrack to the event, while volunteers staffed phone lines and coordinated donations both large and small. Many local businesses participated by pledging matching donations, issuing challenges, and encouraging customers to get involved.
“We are absolutely blown away by the generosity of our community,” said Mary Flint of Relay for Life of Mercer County. “Every dollar raised helps fund cancer research, provides critical patient services, and supports those fighting cancer right here in Mercer County and across the country.”
Relay for Life of Mercer County will continue its fundraising efforts leading up to its main event in June. Monday’s Radiothon showed once again that when Mercer County comes together, great things happen.
