Mary R. Adams, 94 of Viola, Illinois (formerly of Matherville, Illinois), passed away Monday, January 13, 2025, at Aledo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, January 17, at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, January 18, at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Matherville. Interment will be at the Saint John Catholic Cemetery in Viola. Memorial contributions may be left to the Matherville Community Club, Matherville Volunteer Fire Department, or Saint John’s Cemetery Fund. Mary was born October 21, 1930, at the “Farm” north of Matherville to Kenny and Ella David Redpath. She attended Matherville grade schools and graduated from Sherrard High School in 1948. Mary married Robert Adams on October 1, 1949, at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church in Matherville. He passed away July 26, 1961. Mary retired in 1994 from the Rock Island Arsenal after 23 years of employment. She was a member of Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church, the Matherville Eagles Auxiliary, and the Matherville Community Club. Mary loved spending time with her kids and grandkids.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, David (Andre Duerinckx) Adams of Cambridge, Maryland, Stephen Adams of Pevely, Missouri, Larry (Karen) Adams of Matherville, and Beth (Dave) Ryan of Viola; 15 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Carol) Redpath of Matherville; son-in-law, Terry (Sandy) Bender of Milan, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Mary S. Adams of Moline, Illinois; several nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Paula Ryan and family and David and Angie Stark and family.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Lynda Bender; son, Robert Daniel Adams; grandson, Lucas Adams; sisters, Marjorie Mapes, Dorothy Anderson, and Julie Pitman; and brother, Ronald Redpath.
