Kewanee (17-10) was able to hold off Sherrard (21-10) in the semifinals of the IHSA 2A Riverdale Softball Regional Tuesday and beat the Tigers, 9-8.
The Boilermakers held a three run lead twice but Sherrard was able to tie the game both times. Kewanee broke a 7-7 tie with two runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 9-7 lead. The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the inning to make it a one-run game, but stranded the bases loaded. Sherrard went down in order in the seventh.
Kewanee’s freshman catcher Macee Pickering drove in three runs in the win.
Nadia Anderson led Sherrard at the plate, going 2-3 with two home runs and four RBI.
The Boilermakers advance to Friday’s regional championship game against Riverdale, who beat Knoxville Tuesday, 8-4.
