The Mercer County Board of Education takes up more building discussions. On a 4-3 vote Wednesday night, the Unit 404 school board approved seeking bids for a classroom addition and tearing down the three-story portion at New Boston Elementary. Board members Tab Balmer, Mark Bieri, Bill Smock and Mike Bowns supported the move. Also under consideration was to have the Joy campus serve as an elementary location instead of New Boston, but that vote failed. Apollo will continue to serve as an elementary school campus and the intermediate school building in Aledo will house the district’s 6-through-8 graders next school year. Bowns spoke with WRMJ after the vote.
44 people attended Wednesday night’s meeting.
In other business, the board turned down a request to add junior high baseball.
