Jesse C. Fugate, 90 of Viola, passed away Monday, May 13, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family. Per his wishes cremation rites will be accorded, private inurnment will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Viola Food Pantry. Jesse was born on June 18, 1933, in Bushnell, Illinois, the son of Jesse and Alma (Smith) Fugate. He married Twila “Pat” Ludwig on September 3, 1955, in Bushnell. Jesse graduated from Galesburg High School and got a bachelor’s degree from Aeronautics Academy in Chicago. He also graduated from the State Police Academy and served as an Illinois State Trooper for many years. Jesse retired as a realtor from his business Fugate Real Estate in Rock Island.
Jesse was a proud veteran who served in The United States Navy. He was a member of the Viola VFW and American Legion. Jesse enjoyed camping, wintering in Texas with Pat, and spending time with his family.
Jesse is survived by his wife; one son, Jeffrey (Rose) Fugate of Milan, Illinois; one daughter, Pamela Fugate of Sterling, Illinois; five grandchildren, Nicole (Josh) Prine, Katie (Mark) Berry, Krista (Mark) Buckley, Sydney (Aaron) Rhodes, and Jada Rhodes; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Richard Fugate of Atlanta, Illinois; one special sister-in-law, Margreta Ludwig of Viola, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, David and Barry; six sisters; and four brothers.
