Jeanne Ann (Nelson) Streeter, 89 of New Windsor, IL, passed away on May 20, 2024, at her home. Services will be held at the New Windsor Presbyterian Church with a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, May 27, and the funeral at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 28. Per Jeanne’s request, friends and family are encouraged to wear cheerful colors. Contributions in her memory can be made to the New Windsor Cemetery Maintenance and Improvements Fund or the New Windsor Presbyterian Church. She was born on September 2, 1934, in Galesburg, IL. In 1951, Larry Streeter asked Jeanne to prom. She and Larry spent the next 73 years twirling, spinning, and gliding through life together. They were known far and wide as excellent dancers. The envy of many. After graduating from New Windsor High School in 1952, Jeanne attended Bradley University where she studied nursing and pledged the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She left college to marry Larry in 1955 and they started a family a few years later. Jeanne was a magnificent homemaker.
She bravely went back to school as she approached her 50th birthday. She was a diligent student juggling studying A&P and the like, while the boys were in college themselves and Elizabeth was in grade school. She completed her RN degree from Black Hawk College in 1984. She held a variety of nursing jobs before she found her calling at the Galesburg Clinic where she worked until her retirement.
A devoted member of the New Windsor Presbyterian Church, Jeanne actively participated in church activities and served as an elder and chair of the church’s food stand for many years.
She was known for her love of entertaining, baking, gardening, sewing, and knitting. The Streeter’s Christmas and Kentucky Derby Parties were a highlight, showcasing her baking and decorating skills.
Jeanne and Larry loved to travel. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling and visited both Hawaii and Alaska. The mountains, lakes, and waterfalls of the Western US and the Canadian Rockies were among her favorite places on Earth.
Jeanne is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Larry Streeter, and her children, Greg (Leisa) Streeter, Marshall (Jan) Streeter, Chris (Elisa) Streeter, and Elizabeth (Stacey) White. She is also survived by seven cherished grandchildren, Emalie (Pat) Traylor of Denver, CO, Claire Streeter of Amarillo, TX, Lauren (Max) Edwards of Denver, CO, Colton Streeter of Ames, IA, Tayler Streeter of Fort Dodge, IA, and Connor White and Evelyn White, both of Grayslake, IL.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Kathryn Nelson, and her sister-in-law, Susan Streeter Peterson.
