Janice L. Young, 83 of Viola, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Mercer Manor, Aledo. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 15, at Dennison Funeral Home, Viola. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time. Inurnment will be at Viola Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, Viola United Methodist Church, or to the Wounded Warrior Project. Janice was born on January 3, 1941, in Galesburg, the daughter of George and Phyllis (Kell) Shaw. She married Donald King, he preceded her in death. Later, she married Stuart “Spud” Young on May 10, 2003, in New Windsor. Janice worked for AT&T as a telephone operator and later worked for Sam’s Club. She enjoyed her flower gardens and crossword puzzles. She will be remembered for her amazing organizational skills and for being an incredible housekeeper. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Janice is survived by her husband, Spud Young, Viola; children, Tammy (Jim) Street, Davenport, IA, Brad (Sandra) King, Normal, IL, Curt (Sherri) Young, Viola, Karen (Paul) Roberts, Viola, Dan Dalton, Matherville, and Laura Bennett, France; grandchildren, Ross (Katie) Bokemeyer, Jake King, and Zach Street; multiple step grandchildren; one step great grandchild and one great-great grandchild; brother-in-law, Arnie Ibsen; and nephew, Chris (Ashley) Ibsen. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Donald King; and sister, Barb Leeser.
