Former United pitching ace Katie Bertelsen is being recommended for the Sherrard High School softball job. Action on the hire is scheduled tonight by the Sherrard Board of Education. Bertelsen spent last season as an assistant softball coach at Galesburg High School. The Southern Illinois University grad pitched United to four state tournament appearances during her playing days, including a state title in 2011. Bertelsen struck out 34 batters in the 2009 state title game in which United lost to Cobden 1-0 in 19 innings.
