REYNOLDS, IL – A fast-moving fire tore through two homes in Reynolds on Tuesday, leaving families displaced.
Emma Pearson, a resident of one of the homes, recalled the terrifying moment she realized the fire was spreading. “I was downstairs at my grandma’s lower apartment when an elderly woman knocked on the door, telling me to get out,” Pearson said. “I panicked and ran upstairs to warn my family.”
At first, Pearson said, her family didn’t believe the danger was real. That changed when her mother saw the flames outside the kitchen window. “She ran into the bedroom to wake up my dad, and my sister saw it too. Then we all rushed downstairs, grabbing our cats on the way,” Pearson said.
The family made it out safely with their three pets, but the home was left in ruins. Tragically, animals in the neighboring home may not have survived. “It’s just very sad,” Pearson said.
Fire crews worked to control the blaze, but both homes suffered severe damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Authorities have not reported any injuries, but families impacted by the fire are now seeking assistance. The community is coming together to help, with an immediate need for clothing for the family who lost everything in the fire.
