Two Lincoln Trail Conference schools in Henry County are moving closer to a co-op in girls basketball.
The Annawan and Wethersfield School Districts have been discussing an agreement for the schools to compete together in girls basketball. The talks started after Annawan High School canceled its girls basketball season due to low numbers in the winter.
Annawan and Wethersfield already have a co-op agreement in football, cross country, golf, baseball, softball, and track and field.
Wethersfield High School girls basketball coach Todd Hansen joined Sportsline on Saturday. He says the Annawan girls who want to play basketball will likely play with Wethersfield next season under the “Wethersfield Flying Geese” moniker, but he believes a full co-op is coming.
Volleyball and boys and girls basketball are the only varsity sports that Annawan and Wethersfield currently compete in separately.
