Viola Man Receives Not Guilty Verdict In Sexual Abuse Bench Trial

A Viola man has been found not guilty in a Mercer County sex abuse case.

A judge acquitted 33-year-old Gregory Wilson of two Class 2 felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in Mercer County Circuit Court on Wednesday, nearly two years after his September 2024 arrest, which followed an investigation from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department. The bench trial took two days to complete.

Wilson was originally granted pretrial release with home detention at the time of his arrest, but has been in custody at the Mercer County Jail since last August after the prosecution filed a petition to revoke his pretrial release. He will be released from custody on Wednesday.
