Rockridge Walks Off Sherrard In TRAC West Softball Opener

Rockridge sophomore Tatum Lowe delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Rockets a 5-4 win over Sherrard at home on Monday.

Lowe went 3-4 at the plate and also was the winning pitcher after allowing just one hit over four shutout innings in relief. She struck out six batters in the outing.

Sherrard (5-1, 0-1 TRAC West) jumped out to a 3-0 lead by scoring three runs with two outs in the top of the second inning. Marisa Neels singled, Alexis Essary tripled, and then Madison Woodward clubbed a two-run home run to give the Tigers an early lead.

Rockridge (8-0, 1-0 TRAC West) responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. Taylor Hoggard led off the inning with a solo home run. Then, Emilee Black tied the game with a two-out, two-run double. Bri Schlapkohl then gave Rockridge its first lead of the day with an RBI single.

The Tigers plated a run in the top of the fifth to tie the game 4-4.

Sherrard stranded the bases loaded three times and left 13 runners on base in the loss. Rockridge left 11 runners on base in the win.

Makensie Westfall took the loss for the Tigers, allowing five runs (four earned) in 7.1 innings.

Schlapkohl threw the first four innings of the game for the Rockets, giving up four earned runs.

The last five meetings between Rockridge and Sherrard in softball have been decided by one run.
