John William Ward – Graveside Services 8/5/25 (in Florida)

John William Ward, 91 of North Port, Florida, died Thursday, July 17, 2025, at home after a serious illness. Graveside services are 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 5, at Sarasota National Cemetery where the honor guard will be playing taps and presenting the American flag to Beverly. Sarasota National Cemetery is located at 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, Florida. Memorials may be made to San Pedro Catholic Church or for masses in John’s name. John was born in Udell, Iowa, on May 7, 1934. He worked at John Deere in the Quad Cities for ten years. While there, he was drafted into the army at 23 years old and was honorably discharged. John and his wife, Beverly, operated the Town and Country Restaurant from 1973-1984 while he worked at and retired from the Aledo Post Office after 25 years. They then moved to Florida for his health, and he worked at Bobcat Trail Golf Course for 20 years until he was 85 years old.

John married Beverly Jean Ward on February 6, 1955, celebrating their 70th Wedding Anniversary this year. A regular at the San Pedro Catholic Church, John avidly enjoyed playing golf into his late 80s; however, in his younger days he enjoyed playing pool, bowling, and many outdoor activities. His favorite thing above all was being with family and watching sports on TV with Beverly, especially the Chicago Cubs.

He left behind three children, Lea Ann (Greg) Miller from Bradenton, FL, Kristine (Tom) Berglund from Aledo, IL, and Joe (Roberta) Ward from North Port, FL; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
