Sherrard (22-9) ended a nine-year streak of Rockridge winning softball regional championships by beating the Rockets (24-6-1) 2-1  in eight innings to claim the 2A Farmington Regional title Friday.

The Tigers broke a 1-1 tie when Kayee Faccio delivered a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning. Rockridge got the tying run to second base in the bottom of the eighth, but Savanah Hauger got Morgan Hofer to pop out in foul territory to end the game.

Hauger opened the scoring with an RBI single in the top of the third to put Sherrard ahead early. The Rockets tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out RBI single off the bat of Madelyn David. Rockridge loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh with a chance to win the game, but stranded the runners.

Hauger took the win for Sherrard after allowing one earned run on seven hits in eight innings. Taylor Dieterich took the loss for the Rockets. She gave up two runs on four hits in eight innings.

Sherrard snapped a 24-game losing streak to Rockridge with the win. It was the first time the Tigers have beat the Rockets in softball since May 24, 2014.

Sherrard advances to play St. Bede (15-12) in the semifinals of the 2A IVC Sectional in Chillocothe on Tuesday. The second semifinal features Brimfield (31-3) taking on Canton (19-10) on Tuesday.
