The board president of the New Windsor Rodeo is accused of stealing $900,000 from taxpayers during her time as a Rock Island County employee.
62-year-old Leisa Streeter was arrested after the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State Police searched her New Windsor home on Wednesday. She retired last year after working for Rock Island County as an administrative assistant in court services for 34 years.
Streeter is facing multiple charges, including theft, theft of government property, forgery, money laundering, and three counts of official misconduct.
The Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office says she forged documents and opened a fraudulent bank account for her personal use in 2003. She is accused of funneling payments into the account and withdrawing the money to pay credit card bills, travel, transportation, and more.
Streeter was taken to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, awaiting court proceedings and a transfer to the Rock Island County Jail.
