Today’s WRMJ Senior Spotlight features Jacob Kenney, a proud member of the Mercer County High School Class of 2025. Jacob joined WRMJ’s Ty Taylor to reflect on his high school experience, his involvement in academics and athletics, and what’s next after graduation.
While Jacob said no one specific moment stood out, he reflected on how quickly high school has flown by. He mentioned being crowned Homecoming King and enjoying the football season—even if it ended sooner than hoped—as standout highlights.
In the classroom, Jacob enjoyed hands-on learning, citing zoology and robotics as two of his favorite classes. But sports played a huge role in shaping his high school journey. A three-sport athlete, Jacob played football in the fall and, this spring, he’s taken on the challenge of competing in both baseball and track and field—thanks to a new school policy allowing dual spring sports participation.
“It’s been a bit more chaotic,” Jacob said of juggling two sports, “but the coaches have done a great job keeping things organized.” He noted that while it’s more demanding, he’s been able to manage his responsibilities with some help and structure.
One unique aspect of Jacob’s high school experience has been having his father both as a teacher and coach. “It’s been a blessing,” Jacob said, sharing how his dad’s support has been constant both academically and athletically.
Looking ahead, Jacob plans to attend Carl Sandburg College, where he will play JUCO baseball and work toward earning a degree in engineering.
