Today’s Senior Spotlight on WRMJ shines on Emily Lathrop, a proud member of the Rockridge High School Class of 2025. WRMJ’s Ty Taylor caught up with Emily to reflect on her time at Rockridge and her plans for the future.
Emily shared that some of her favorite memories from high school include organizing the Sadie Hawkins Dance through National Honor Society, as well as the excitement of regional wins in girls basketball. She’s also taken part in cross country and track and field, and will continue her athletic career at Black Hawk College, where she plans to play basketball.
On the academic side, Emily says her passion lies in science, particularly chemistry—so much so that she pursued advanced chemistry her senior year. She’s also been involved in several extracurricular groups including Student Council and Rockridge’s chapter of Gray Matters, a mental health initiative that she described as a “safe space” and “a great group of people that just want to help others.”
Reflecting on her high school years, Emily credited the people around her—the students, teachers, and community—for making her Rockridge experience so meaningful. “They’ve always been so encouraging and supportive,” she said.
Following graduation, Emily plans to attend Black Hawk College before transferring to a four-year university.
