MerCo Outslugs Rockridge, Beats Rockets In Softball For First Time Ever

Mercer County (11-0, 2-0 TRAC West) beat Rockridge (8-3, 1-1 TRAC West) in softball for the first time in school history Monday, 10-8 on the road.

The Golden Eagles opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning. Rockridge answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the first. Mercer County then took advantage of three Rockridge errors in the top of the second to score five runs and take a 6-1 lead. After the Rockets plated one run in the bottom of the third, Rockridge exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-6 lead. Mercer County responded with four runs in the top of the fifth, all coming with two outs. Natalie Thomson hit a three-run home run in the inning, which broke a 7-7 tie and put the Golden Eagles ahead for good.

Thomson finished 1-5 with a homer and three RBI. Maddy Campbell-Baker and Kelsie Weeks also hit home runs for Mercer County in the win.

Rockridge freshman catcher Emilee Black went 4-5 with a home run and four RBI in the loss.

Alivia Gillespie was the winning pitcher in relief. Taylor Dieterich took the loss for the Rockets.
