Sherrard senior Nadia Anderson blasted an opposite-field home run in the top of the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie and put the Tigers (7-0) ahead for good in a 5-4 win over 1A No. 1 West Central (3-1) 5-4 in Stronghurst Thursday.
The Heat scored the first three runs of the game and led 3-0 entering the third inning. Sherrard plated four runs in the top of the third with two outs to get in front 4-3. Savanah Hauger and Makensie Westfall each delivered two-out, two-RBI hits in the frame.
West Central knotted the game at 4-4 with a run in the fifth.
Danni Neppl was the winning pitcher for Sherrard, allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits in six innings. Hauger picked up the save by retiring all three batters she faced in the seventh inning.
Addie Sietz took the loss for the Heat. She gave up five runs (one earned) on seven hits in seven innings. Sietz struck out 10 batters in the loss.
