The Aledo Police Department would like to remind the citizens of Aledo to use caution when answering unsolicited phone calls or calls labeled as “Potential Spam.”
The Aledo Police Department received two recent complaints about potential scam activity involving large sums of money. Luckily, both residents were diligent in their actions and determined the calls were not valid; neither citizen reported financial losses.
You should avoid giving out any personal information over the phone unless you are sure of who you are speaking to or can verify this information with a trusted third party.
In these situations, a suspicious caller might ask for the following information:
• Social Security Number
• Birth date
• Home address
• Credit/Debit card information
• Financial Institution information, including name of bank and account numbers
• Additional phone numbers
Please know that a financial institution will never resolve your financial matters via text or through an unknown party or foreign number you do not recognize. It is always best to visit your bank branch in person or to contact your local branch at the publicly listed phone number and speak to someone you trust. It is essential to notify your financial institution(s) should you suspect confidential information has been compromised.
If you have been a victim of fraud or attempted fraud, please contact the Aledo Police Department at (309) 582-2331.
