Rockridge Rallying Around Injured Student-Athlete

The Rockridge community continues to rally around an injured student-athlete.

Rockridge High School junior Drew Hawk sustained a serious spinal injury in a diving accident in a pool last month. Rockridge High School football coach Sam Graves says Hawk is at the front of everyone’s minds.

Graves says the Rockridge High School football coaching staff will wear special shirts to honor Hawk in their season opener next week, while the kids will be wearing the shirts under their pads.

The district is currently selling pins with proceeds supporting the family. Earlier this month, a t-shirt fundraiser was organized for Hawk, and the Edgington Presbyterian Church donated all the proceeds from its annual ice cream social to the family. There has also been a Venmo account set up to allow donations to go straight to the Hawk family.

Graves says more fundraising efforts are planned for the family with a big push during Rockridge’s first football game of the season against Kewanee next Friday in Edgington.
