Mercer County (14-17) opened its postseason run with a 66-45 win over Alleman (4-27) Monday in the quarterfinals of the IHSA 2A Mercer County Regional.
The Pioneers scored the game’s first basket to take a 2-0 lead, which was the only time Alleman led. Mercer County answered with six unanswered points and never trailed again.
The Golden Eagles held a 29-18 advantage at halftime and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half.
Carson Boelens scored a game-high 15 points for Mercer County in the win. Brady McPeek added 14 for the Golden Eagles.
Jack Wendt paced Alleman with 13 points in the loss.
Mercer County will play Orion (24-7) in the regional semifinal round Wednesday in Aledo at 7:30 p.m. The first semifinal will feature Sherrard (27-3) taking on Kewanee (15-17) at 6 p.m.
