Social Media Comment About MERCO Homecoming Parade Leads To Class X Felony Charge

A Class X Terrorism/Threat charge has been filed against an Aledo man following an investigation involving a social media comment regarding the Mercer County High School homecoming parade last week. 23-year-old Caden Miller was arrested last Thursday.

According to a Mercer County Sheriff’s Department press release, “Sheriff’s Office personnel, Aledo Police, and Mercer County School District administration worked together to develop a plan to assure the safety of everyone with the least amount of disruption to the public. Deputies worked diligently and quickly to identify the person who made the comment.”

Miller appeared in court Friday where Mercer County State’s Attorney Grace Simpson filed a verified petition to deny pre-trial release. A public defender was also appointed, who asked for and was granted a fitness evaluation for the defendant. A status hearing is set for Nov. 18. Miller remains in custody at the Mercer County Jail.
