Saturday Sports: MERCO Softball Wraps Regular Season With Split Against Knoxville

Mercer County (19-9, 13-6 LTC) ended its softball regular season splitting a doubleheader at home against Knoxville (23-5, 14-3 LTC) Saturday.

The Blue Bullets took the first game, 11-8, in twelve innings. Knoxville broke a 6-6 tie with five runs in the top of the 12th inning. The Golden Eagles scored two in the bottom half of the inning. Payton Knapp hit a home run and drove in two runs in the loss.

In game two, Mercer County won, 14-3, in six innings. The Golden Eagles scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away. Natalie Thomson and Maddy Campbell-Baker each homered in the win. Hallie Schreurs got the win in the pitchers circle by allowing three runs in six innings.
