The nation’s 16th President was honored at the recent Essley Noble Museum Open House. The annual Abraham Lincoln Poster Contest was held awarding 4th graders for their work in researching and presenting an informational poster.
The contest winner Kyla Gaul and participant Nolan Kubas spoke to WRMJ outside their Sherrard Grade School classrooms.
Kyla: “I did a mixture of blue, red and white, and then I went to Lincoln Museum in Springfield and I got this set of his writings, a copy of that, a big magnet of a penny that’s on him, and a feather with ink.”
Nolan: “I got some quotes. I got a picture of him. The background’s red. I got his Gettysburg speech and the Golden Sayings of Abraham Lincoln. I learned about his like speeches a lot about his life. I think he’s like he’s one of my favorite presidents.“
Students in the Mercer County School District also took part.
Lincoln has ties to Mercer County coming through this area as he fought in the Blackhawk War and surveying the future town of New Boston.
