Memories being shared about the late Harold “Spike” Heck and his love of the Mercer County Fair and fairgrounds. Heck died in an accident last Friday.

“Anyone that ever crossed paths with Spike left with memories and several sayings! He had a very deep passion for agricultural lifestyle, whether it be as a youngster in 4H, his farming years, to selling farm equipment, tractor pulling to watching over his farm ground north of Joy. He especially took a great pride and passion in the care of the fairgrounds and gave me great guidance on my role here. Getting ready for the 2021 fair, a reporter asked Spike about what the fair meant to him, he replied that as a youngster if he had to decide between the fair or Christmas it was no question the fair! The reporter asked why? Spike looked at him and left him with one of his many sayings, ‘son Christmas is one day and there are five days of the fair!’”
