The work continues to get a street named after baseball Hall of Famer John “Bid” McPhee in Keithsburg. Chad Weeks is leading that charge. He spoke to the Keithsburg City Council earlier this month. The street involved is 10th Street. The project would involve signage and a street name change, which would impact mail and the U.S. Postal Service. Weeks plans to talk to residents of 10th Street. He believes it’s a worthy cause and continues to promote an online petition through change.org.
McPhee grew up in Keithsburg in the 1860s and would attend Keithsburg schools. He played 2nd base, without a glove, for the Cincinnati Reds from 1882 to 1899. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown by the Veterans Committee in 2000. McPhee died in 1943 in San Diego, California.
