Following a few listener questions, WRMJ was able to track down an update from the Illinois Department of Transportation regarding an Illinois Route 17 bridge project west of Joy at the Edwards River. The work began in August of 2018, but the bridge remains one-lane with a traffic signal.
IDOT originally expected the improvement to be finished by this past August, but IDOT Public Information Officer Paul Wappel tells WRMJ that work is being finalized to the bridge, “but most of the activity is taking place below traffic level with the bridge beams.” He adds anticipated completion in mid-to-late November with both lanes being opened.
