New Boston gets a “shout out” from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum this week. It was on Sept. 30th 186 years ago that Abraham Lincoln, the land surveyor signed the original plat for the town. The document was featured on the museum’s Facebook page this week. New Boston Mayor Chris DeFrieze says the Lincoln heritage is something to be proud of.
Lincoln also traveled through Mercer County at the onset of the Black Hawk War in May of 1832. Then Captain Lincoln of the Illinois Militia led his company northeast from Oquawka to the Rock River at Milan—passing through Mercer County west of Aledo.
