Two Critically Hurt; Driver Facing Charges In Mercer County DUI Crash

Two passengers critically injured and the driver facing multiple charges after a crash in Mercer County over the weekend. Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding early Saturday morning on Illinois Route 17. According to a press release, the vehicle eluded officers traveling north on 310th Street. The pursuit was stopped due to safety concerns. The initial deputy continued north on 310th Street in the event the suspect vehicle crashed, which it did near 110th Avenue. The vehicle missed the curve, crashed through a fence and then head on with a tree. A total of three passengers were transported to the hospital for their injuries, two of which were critical. Their names have not been released. The driver, 21 year old Colby McCaw of Cambridge was arrested for DUI, aggravated fleeing and eluding, aggravated reckless driving and speeding. He was taken to the Mercer County Jail where he later posted bond
