Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker asked about high school sports this fall. He’s hopeful, but also non-committal. He says he’s tracked a study in Europe where there is concern about young athletes taking COVID-19 back to their families after competing.
At least 14 states are delaying the start of their football seasons with two states, New Mexico and Virginia, moving football to the Spring.
The IHSA is meeting with the Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois State Board of Education on July 24. The IHSA says they expect this meeting to provide guidance on how they proceed with fall sports. The IHSA Board of Directors will then meet on July 29 to announce plans for the fall.
