Mercer County Sheriff Dusty Terrill confirming to WRMJ that two people have died from gunshot wounds in Preemption. The sheriff’s office responded to a 911 call Wednesday afternoon and Terrill says when deputies arrived they found two subjects with apparent gunshot wounds. He says both were pronounced dead at the scene by the Mercer County Coroner. The matter is under investigation. The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Aledo and Viola Police Departments, Sherrard Fire Department, AMT Ambulance, and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services. Terrill says names are being withheld at this time. He says there is no known evidence of an ongoing public safety risk at this time.
