Mercer County Sheriff’s Dept. Investigating Shooting; Youth Injured

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office investigating a shooting. The department received a 911 call late Wednesday afternoon reporting that a male juvenile was the victim of a gunshot wound. Deputies responded and began an investigation into the circumstances. The male was transported from the scene by MedForce to the University of Iowa Hospitals. Matherville Fire and Genesis Ambulance assisted in providing care. Deputies along with authorities in Johnson County, Iowa and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services are continuing the investigation and more information will be released as it is gained, according to a press release from the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department. The release states there is no evidence of any type of ongoing public safety risk at this time.
